Change Of An Adult's Name
Do you want to change your name?

For everyday use you can decide to use a different name. However for official documents (passport. drivers licence etc.) and certain organisations (e.g. doctors) you need to do it officially.

For general use you can have an unenrolled deed pole. You have to be 16 or older to do this.

For official documentation it must be registered properly. You have to be 18 or older to do this.

Change Of A Child's Name
Does your child have a different name to you?

For a child under 16 you can make an unenrolled deed poll by using a specialist deed poll agency or a solicitor. A 17 or 18 year old can do this themself.

Or you can apply for an enrolled deed poll.

All adults who have parental responsibility must agree to change the child's name or a court order must be obtained.
